Team goes nuts for ARC and VRC Rally Championship top placing!

The gonutsforcars.com.au Rally Team were extremely pleased with their 5th placing at Rally Victoria. This round was a challenging season finale to the Bosch ARC [Australian Rally Championship] and Exedy VRC [Victorian Rally Championship]
The event was again based out of the picturesque Lardner Park, Warragul and hosted the Media & VIP Rides day, Service Park, Event Headquarters, Super Special Spectator Stages and Event Podium.
The gonutsforcars.com.au Rally Team successfully completed Heat 2 of the ARC Round after repairs were made to the car from their blown turbo in Heat 1. The team viewed the unfortunate incident as a blessing as they were able to complete 2 stages for practice before having to head to service.
Bosch ARC crews contested Heat 1 over 75km’s, consisting of 2 forest stages run twice each and 2 Super Special Stages at Lardner Park on the Friday to entertain the public. Saturday saw the VRC crews (incorporating the Hyundai Excel Series) joining the event and competing behind Heat 2 of the ARC over 150 km’s on 8 spectacular forest stages and finishing off with a final dash around the Lardner Super Special. The gonutsforcars.com.au Rally Team were extremely excited to place second on this final stage by a mere 1 second to the team of Stewart / Zinstaag.
“We were delighted to find out we had placed 5th outright at the end of the event in the VRC and 14th outright in the ARC in Heat 2! It just goes to show how much David and I have gelled as a team during the year. It’s all come together beautifully! I had an amazing time and I was loving the pace notes and having David commit to them and driving the car like it was stolen!” said Kelley. “I am thrilled that David has asked me to be part of the team again and I cannot wait for 2012!”
“We were really on song today and our heads were in the right space, even after the day one blown turbo. I had sat beside John Bertrand AM on Wednesday night before the rally, at a Rotary Club of Berwick Fundraiser of which I am a committee member and JB was telling us as guest speaker, how he got his team’s head in the right space to win ‘The Cup’ and Cathy Freeman’s response to him trackside after her winning run at Sydney 2000 was about all the components of the race, not the win. So consequently, after the turbo died, I thought bugger this, we’re gong to do Saturday one corner at a time and got an excellent result. Happiness!” David said.
The Gonutsforcars.com.au Rally Team would like to congratulate Warren Lee & David Lethlean on winning the VRC Championship as well as all of the other crews who successfully completed the event and thank their faithful sponsors;
David Nutter Ford Used Cars, Berwick Volkswagen Used Cars, & their Service Departments, Castrol, Hayman Reece Tow Products, David Nutter Subaru Parts & Service, SignActive, The Tint Joint, The Layne Beachley Aim For the Stars Foundation, Garden Save and Home Maintenance Vic, plus the series sponsor Exedy clutches, the David Nutter Ford and Berwick Volkswagen Used Cars Service Crew who have worked tirelessly and all the volunteer officials and directing team at Rally Victoria who made it possible to go rallying and have so much fun!

Spectators Delight at Akademos
Spectators Delight at Akademos
After recent rains, the forests around Alexandra are in perfect condition for Round 4 of the EXEDY Victorian Rally Championship, and they will need to be as some of Australia’s best, along with the State’s best rally crews will be hitting the forest roads this Sunday.
Spectators will be in for a treat as four time Australian Rally Champions, Simon & Sue Evans will head the field, but not in the four wheel drive turbo car we have become accustomed to seeing them in, but the V8 HQ that Simon used in the 2001 Alpine. The car has undergone a ground up rebuild and the Akademos will be its debut with the champs sliding through the popular flowing forests between Thornton and Eildon.
Challenging his older siblings in the HQ will be ARC regulars Eli Evans in the Honda Civic Type R, along with co-driver Glen Weston. Eli is currently in 2nd place in the Australian 2WD Championship after Rally Australia in Coffs Harbour and will be using the event to further test and develop the Honda.
Current leaders of the EXEDY VRC, Steve Kenway and Lauren Palmer will be keen to increase their championship lead at Akademos in their Subaru WRX STi; however, Warren Lee and David Lethlean have recently announced the addition of MotorUP as their major sponsor of their Mitsubishi EVO 9 and will be keen to take the championship lead back from Kenway & Palmer.
Currently third placed in the points, Wayne Stewart and Lucas Zinsstag have just acquired the 2010 Championship winning car of Nathan Reeves and will be keen to take advantage of their updated Subaru for the remainder of the season.
Brothers Stephen & Glen Raymond will also be looking to improve on their last round result in their Group N(P) Corolla, as will the father and daughter pairing of Craig & Carrie Morris as well as David Nutter and Jenna Kelley.
The EXEDY 2WD Championship is also a close affair coming into the Akademos with the top three places split by just 4 points. Newcomers Alan Roe & Ray Farrell have a slender 3 point lead over Rob Davis & Aiden O’Halloran in their Nissan Sunny Gti, while Rowan Woollard & Adam Wright are just 1 point further back in 3rd. Brian Semmens & Dan Parry are expected to try and make a charge to regain the 2WD lead, and make up their unfinished business of finishing runners up in the 2010 2WD Championship.
Past ARC Champions Geoff Portman & Ross Runnalls will also debut their Ford Escort MK II at the Akademos in preparation for the upcoming Alpine Rally in November. The Walker stable of Escorts will also be back in what is an increasingly large number of classic cars running as part of the EXEDY VRC.
Another crowd favourite, the V8 Commodore ute of Gary Berrie & Rod McEwen will also be back, turning on the sideways action.
The BATRONIC Hyundai Excel Rally Series will again see the brother team of Steven & Brent Mackenzie expected to lead the charge with Andrew Thompson & Simon Barton-Ancliff, as well as Jonathon Byrnes & Stuart Diggins also expected to be on the pace. Tony & Nikki Moore also return to the VRC from the ARC this round and will be looking to push the Excel field all the way.
One impressive spectator point will be used twice on Sunday. Spectators can pick up spectator guides from the Alexandra Race Club or Thornton Football Oval or download from www.vicrally.com.au and click on the Akademos link.

Triple 7 Racing and JK Rallysport began the Coffs Coast Forest Rally on Thursday night with a bang in the two tarmac super special stages in front of thousands of enthusiastic spectators who had gathered to watch the Australian Rally Championship round and World Rally Championship round, run in conjunction.
Tyler gained confidence and speed around the super special stage, but the damp surface from rain caused the car to slide into the Armco on a fast right turn, much to the crowd’s delight. The well organised and efficient service crew were able to make the required repairs on Friday morning (once the car was released from Parc Ferme) to the bent left steering arm, well within the 10 minute allowed service time.
Tyler and Kelley gelled immediately on the first stage of 29.03k’s and were setting a cracking pace, until a fast straight that slowed to a tight left sent the car understeering into a bank. Unhurt, the team lost over 20 minutes on the stage, but were determined to continue. They pushed on and even passed the car in front on the next stage, beating their fellow competitor’s time!
“We decided that rather than give up after that incident and be down about it, we were going to dust ourselves off and give it everything we had and drive the car until it would go no further. It made us even more determined to finish the event. With the wet conditions cars began falling off the road. There were over 10 cars off on the Shipman’s Stage. We even passed seven time World Rally Champion, Sebastian Loeb who had rolled his Citröen. Ogier had an off as well and was sitting by his car as we passed him!” said Tyler. “The World Rally drivers said that this event was one of the hardest they have ever competed in. It was my first ARC and I loved it. Coffs Harbour was the perfect setting for the event. It was central to everything and the town really supported the rally with record crowds. I’ve never seen anything like it. The rally was extremely well organised and the officials were all helpful and friendly and they all joined us in our elation at the finish of the rally as they had shared our turbulent journey over the past few days.”
“We had a very small budget and we are grateful to our fellow teams who assisted us with servicing the car and providing us with some parts and lots of race tape! I think there are only three panels on the car that aren’t dented. That just goes to show how dedicated we were to getting to the end. No matter what we threw at the car, she took it all and still got us over the finish line! I couldn’t believe it. Each time we arrived into the service park the number of spectators at our tent grew in depth and their support and encouragement was amazing! They were laughing and joking with us and even verbally assisting the service crew!” said Kelley. “Our Team Manager, Chris Simmons and the boys worked tirelessly to keep us going. Chris noted the cracked left steering arm and replaced it in record time on Saturday. Our team’s work was so inspiring and energising! It was wonderful to be part of such a friendly and communicative team. There was never any tension or stress even when we were racing against the clock. I am very proud to have completed the ARC and it was an absolute thrill to be in an event with the WRC teams and my hero Petter Solberg!”
The team would like to thank their friend and mentor, Ed Ordynski plus their amazing fans and service crew. A huge thank you also to all of our faithful sponsors: S2 Performance, B&R Autogas and Exhaust, Aluminium Dynamics, Walkers Creative Art, Willunga Tyre and Battery, James at Coffs Harbour Motorworld for the super little recce car, The Layne Beachley Aim for the Stars Foundation, Davina Park from IDP Education Pty Ltd, Garden Save and Home Maintenance VIC, Steve Piggott, The Carter Family and Kelly Rodger.

Tyler and Kelley team up for the Coffs Coast ARC
Confederation of Australian Motorsport (CAMS) Future Star winner for 2010, Guy Tyler is proud to announce a new partnership with Jenna Kelley from JK Rallysport.
Jenna from Victoria will be calling the notes for Guy at the 2011 Coffs Coast Forest Rally, a piggyback event for Australia’s WRC round Rally Australia, to be held from the 8th-11th of September in NSW (http://www.rallyaustralia.com/).
Jenna is one of 8 elite women who have been awarded a grant from the Layne Beachley Aim for The Stars Foundation for 2011. She is the first woman in motorsport to secure the grant.
The newly formed team will take part in the Australian Rally Championship (ARC) category of the event in Guy’s Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 3 and they are very excited about the challenges they will face.
“I am thrilled to be able to have such an experienced navigator for this big event, pacenoting is crucial and I am sure we can both work well together to achieve a good result!” said Tyler, who will be competing in his first ARC and also in his first motorsport event outside of his home state of South Australia.
“My small team and I here in SA had planned to compete in this event from the start of the year, primarily for the opportunity to race with the WRC boys and gain further experience in other rallies, especially one of such a large scale. We are busy working at the moment to have the car and ourselves ready for the long trip and simply can’t wait to see what the Coffs Coast’s forest stages look like!”
“I am absolutely thrilled to be part of Guy’s team! He’s a talented up and coming young driver with the potential for excellent results now and in the future. I am sure we will be successful in the event and have lots of fun as well,” stated Kelley. “I am grateful to my sponsors and friends who have helped me raise the funds to do this event. Thank you!”
The team would like thank its faithful sponsors: S2 Performance, B&R Autogas and Exhaust, Aluminium Dynamics, Walkers Creative Art, Willunga Tyre and Battery, The Layne Beachley Aim for the Stars Foundation, Davina Park from IDP Education Pty Ltd, Garden Save and Home Maintenance VIC, Steve Piggott, The Carters and Kelly Rodger.
